Quick answer
Updated 30 Oct 2026
A wa.me link is WhatsApp’s official click-to-chat address: wa.me, then your number with the country code, then an optional message after ?text=. Tapping it opens a chat with that number in the WhatsApp app, on WhatsApp Web or on the desktop app. It works for personal accounts, the WhatsApp Business app and the WhatsApp Business API, and it costs nothing to use.
How to use it
Step 01
Enter your number
Pick the country and type the WhatsApp number customers should reach, without the leading zero.
Step 02
Write the first message
Put it in the customer’s words, such as “Hi, I’d like to book a test drive”. One line is enough.
Step 03
Copy, print or paste
Copy the link for your site and bios, download the QR for print, or paste the button snippet once on your website.
Where it works
Website
A floating chat button or a “Chat on WhatsApp” link on the contact page. Paste the snippet once; it works on Framer, WordPress and Shopify.
Instagram and Facebook bios
One link in the bio that opens a chat instead of a form. Pre-fill the message with the offer in your latest post.
Google Business profile and emails
Add the link as your booking or appointment link, and to your email signature and invoice footer.
Print and packaging
The QR code on menus, counters, car-rental desks, delivery packaging and showroom price tags.
Questions
Do I need the WhatsApp Business API to use a link?
No. A wa.me link opens a chat with any WhatsApp number: a personal account, the free WhatsApp Business app or the API. The API matters once several people need to answer the same number.
What happens if the customer does not have WhatsApp?
The link opens a WhatsApp page that offers the app first, then the chat. On a desktop without WhatsApp installed it opens WhatsApp Web.
Do you store my number or message?
No. The link, the QR code and the snippet are made in your browser. Nothing you type here is sent to our servers.
Can I see how many people clicked the link?
Not with wa.me itself. Put the link behind a short link with click counts, or measure the button on your site with your analytics tool.
Can I change the message later?
Yes. Make a new link with the new message and replace it where you pasted it. A QR code that is already printed keeps the old message, so print the QR with a short, general message.
Can one link go to several salespeople?
No. A wa.me link always opens one number. To share the replies across a team, that number needs a shared inbox on the WhatsApp Business API, which is what FlowFlex provides.
