How it looks once approved
Quick answer
Updated 30 Oct 2026
The name must have a clear relationship with your legal business name and match the branding on your website or marketing. Meta rejects names that are only a generic word or place, names written like a web or email address, promotional language, “official” or “verified”, and any mention of WhatsApp or another Meta app. A brand with a place, such as “Fresh Produce Boston”, is allowed.
How approval works
Step 01
Start messaging
You don’t need an approved name to begin. A new number can message customers straight away, within its starting messaging limit.
Step 02
Meta reviews the name
The review starts once your number qualifies for a higher messaging limit. Until the name is approved, it doesn’t show at the top of chats.
Step 03
Change it if needed
You can change the name up to 10 times in 30 days. Each change is reviewed again, and a rejected name can be appealed through Meta’s developer support.
Meta’s rules
No brand match
The name must clearly relate to your legal name and match the branding on your website. For a product brand, use “Product by Company”.
Generic words or places
“Pharmacy” or “Dubai” on its own is rejected. Add your brand: “Al Noor Pharmacy Dubai” is fine.
Promotional wording
No offers, slogans or claims such as “20% off” or “best in Dubai”, and nothing written like a web or email address.
Official or Meta names
No “official” or “verified”, and no mention of WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram or another Meta app.
Questions
Can I send messages before my display name is approved?
Yes. Meta says you don’t need a display name review to get started and can message customers immediately. The name is reviewed once your number qualifies for a higher messaging limit.
Can my display name include my city?
Yes, alongside your brand. Meta accepts names like “Fresh Produce Boston”. A place on its own, such as “Dubai”, is rejected as generic.
Can I use my own name?
Only if your website makes the type of business clear, as in Meta’s example “Tom Ford Chiropractor”. A person’s name with nothing else is likely to be rejected.
My product brand differs from my company name. What should I use?
Show the link in the name, like “Fruit Snacks by Fresh Produce”, and make sure the relationship is visible on your website.
How often can I change my display name?
Up to 10 times in 30 days. Each change is reviewed again, and the new name shows in chats only once it’s approved.
If my name passes here, will Meta approve it?
Not guaranteed. Meta reviews every name itself. This checker covers the reasons Meta publishes, plus formatting that is often rejected, such as all capitals and emoji.
